The Daily Mail has published the first picture of Meryl Streep on the set of “The Giver”, taken last Tuesday: Meryl Streep’s latest role as ‘Chief Elder’ in The Giver has the 64-year-old rocking a long, straight grey wig with fringe. The three-time Oscar winner was all business in a purple skirt suit and white peep-toe wedges on the Cape Town set. The Giver is based on Lois Lowry’s 1993 children’s novel about a society which has ‘gone to great – and sinister – extremes to make everything equal and peaceful.’ The sci-fi drama – coming out August 15 – also stars Jeff Bridges, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, and country starlet Taylor Swift. Edit: Two more pictures have been added.

Who thought we would once have a video on Simply Streep that’s labeled red band and not safe for work? Thank Julia Roberts in this new scene published from the film, in which she tells Violet to eat her fucking fish. The scene also features Ivy (Julianne Nicholson) who’s trying to make a confession, if anyone would listen. Be aware that you might spoil your delight in the theatre if you watch it beforehand, but the scene is great and Roberts shows a powerful performance, so who could resist.

Meryl Streep plays the matriarch of the ultimate dysfunctional family in August: Osage County, and she tells ET’s Rob Marciano that she was reluctant to play such a mean-spirited person onscreen, a characterthat co-star Julia Roberts said set “the new gold standard for cruelty”;! Based on Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, August: Osage County tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Directed by John Wells and in theaters everywhere Christmas Day, the film also stars Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, Juliette Lewis, Sam Shepard and Chris Cooper.

It’s December 1st (I wonder where the year has gone, wasn’t it just December?), and to celebrate this year and the days until Christmas, there will be a Simply Streep Christmas Calendar on Tumblr. All you have to do is check our Tumblr page every day for a Christmas addition to the site – there are some rare videos and new pictures to be added – so there’ll be lots of goodies until Christmas Day. You can also follow Simply Streep on Tumblr and spread the word. To start with a bang, the first entry is a video of Meryl’s appearance at the 1981 Tony Awards. Screencaptures have been added to the image library as well. It has been her first award presentation in her career and I’ve been looking for this forever. So I’m happy to finally share it on Simply Streep.
