While Meryl Streep is busy judging the films in competition at the Berlin Film Festival (besides an appearance at the Berlinale Talents on Sunday, there’s nothing new to report), the Telegraph is delighting us with the teaser trailer for the upcoming “Florence Foster Jenkins”, out in the UK this March. Unfairly but undertandably for a teaser trailer, Florence’s “singing voice” is not revealed, only the shocked faces of Hugh Grant, Nina Arianda and Simon Helberg. This looks like great fun. Check out the trailer above and screencaptures in the photo gallery.
Six promotional featurettes for Meryl’s films, including Postcards from the Edge, The River Wild, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Prime, Doubt and Suffragette have been added to the video archive (the Suffragette video has been added before but went without mention). The former five are not full featurettes but rather bits from an entertainment program, still a great find and some wonderful on-set footage and old interviews. Click any of the previews below.
The last few days have been filled with lots of appearances in the United Kingdom for the promotion of “Suffragette”. Yesterday, Meryl sat down on Graham Norton’s couch (for the second time this year) to talk about the film alongside Carey Mulligan, Nicole Kidman and Nigella Lawson. The complete appearance can be watched in the video archive. Also added are Meryl’s appearances at the Women in the World London Summit, the “Suffragette” press conference at the BFI London Film Festival and an interview with BBC News. For a complete list of new added videos, have a look at the previews below.
A first clip of Meryl Streep portraying Emmeline Pankhurst in “Suffragette” has been released. In the brief clip, which also features Suffragette’s leading lady Carey Mulligan, Pankhurst speaks from the balcony to a large group of followers about equality, saying, “We don’t want to be lawbreakers, we want to be lawmakers”. The clip can be found in the video archive. Many thanks to Joan for the heads-up.
A fourth theatrical trailer – this time featuring quotes from the critical praise, a television spot and the official b-roll for “Suffragette” have been released. You can watch all three clips in the video archive. A new production still of Meryl as Emmeline Pankhurst has been added to the photo gallery as well.
Meryl Streep, Harrison Ford, Jon Hamm and America Ferrera lead a public service announcement for the California Teachers Summit’s Better Together campaign. On July 31, more than 20,000 teachers from across the state will gather for Better Together: California Teachers Summit, a one-of-a-kind event designed to help teachers build a powerful network of peers across regions, share best practices and access effective resources to implement the new California Standards. You can view the PSA in the video archive and find screencaptures in the photo gallery.
This has to be one of the funniest things in a longtime. After a string of unsuccessful and unauthorized films on the lives of Whitney Houston and Elizabeth Taylor, FunnyOrDie.com gives us the trailer we have all been waiting for: Christina Applegate stars as Meryl Streep in this fake preview for Lifetime’s “Meryl”. As the narrator says, “Honestly, it’s like she’s not even trying”. Applegate is hilarious as Susan Orlean, Karen Blixen, the French Lieutenant’s Woman and an array of other classic performances. Hats off! Enjoy the video.
Here comes a great blast from the past, courtesy the Today Show. In 1981, Meryl Streep was interviewed by Gene Shalit on “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”, her TIME magazine cover, which would become an inspiration for actresses in years to come, and her newfound stardom. Here’s Streep at 32, serious and seemingly uncomfortable with being a public person – and being interviewed. An early interview that shouldn’t be missed. You can also find screencaptures in the photo gallery.
Work has prevented me from catching up with all the “Ricki and the Flash” media that happened later in this week, so here’s one big update for you. Several new clips from the film, compilation from the press junket, a report from the New York premiere, as well as Meryl’s August 4 appearance on CBS This Morning have been added to the video archive. Enjoy.
To conclude yesterday’s promotion for “Ricki and the Flash”, Meryl Streep has attended the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. You can watch it in the video archive and find screencaptures in the photo gallery. Additionally, more pictures from Sunday’s photocall as well as from the tapings of both Fallon and the Today Show have been added.
