In the lead-up to Oscars weekend, Meryl Streep, Octavia Spencer, Jane Fonda and Lily Collins were among those who turned out at the Costume Designers Guild Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night. Streep was honored with the Distinguished Collaborator Award. She was presented with the trophy by her frequent costume designer Ann Roth following a good old-fashioned roast from comedian and former “Into the Woods” costar James Corden. “It’s time that someone said it,” he began. “She’s a complete bitch. She is the worst. Now listen, I disagree with almost everything that Donald Trump has ever said, but, when he tweeted that…” he deadpanned, referencing the President’s recent remarks that she’s “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood.” “I’m joking, of course,” Corden said. “It’s great to see someone like Meryl finally be recognized with an award. What is she even going to do with this? This is going to be a doorstop for her Golden Globe room.” Streep kept her speech short and politics-free as she dedicated the award to her mother “who really wanted to be a costume designer.” She said that Halloween was like “the run-up to fashion week in our house.” The actress said she enjoys the role wardrobe plays in helping to create and explore a character. Streep compared the process to “a happy surprise, like simultaneous orgasm or something.” She paused. “Well, maybe it’s not that much fun, but it is a little tiny miracle every time it happens.”

Happy New Year everybody! Today, Meryl Streep has joined colleague and friend Viola Davis to celebrate Davis’ star unveiling at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At the ceremony, Streep said, “Viola Davis is possessed. She’s possessed of a blazing, incandescent talent. She is, arguably, the most immediate, responsive artist I have ever worked with.” And an emotional Davis, who won a Tony for her Broadway performance in Fences and is now frontrunning a Best Supporting Actress win at the Academy Awards, said, “I cannot believe my life right now.” Meryl’s introduction starts around 7:50 minutes.

On Thursday, Meryl Streep has attended the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s A Magical Evening Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Meryl’s sighting comes a day after news that her turn on the upcoming television miniseries “The Nix” will bring her a whopping $825,000 per episode, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. Makes one wonder how many episodes there will be. Streep’s handsome salary places her among a growing list of top-notch performers who have been lured to the small screen thanks to the popularity of original content streamed by the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

Look who’s made a surprise visit to today’s Tokyo International Film Festival – surprising at least for me since I didn’t know about. Meryl is in Tokyo for the city’s film festival and presentation of “Florence Foster Jenkins”. Speaking on the film, Streep said: ““I did try to learn how to sing these arias properly, so I got a very, very good, true opera coach and he taught me the arias correctly. And then in the last two weeks of a two-month preparation… we just, what’s the nice word, screwed around with them. Somehow I pulled it off.” American socialite Foster Jenkins craved fame as a diva but instead gained notoriety for her terrible singing voice. The 29th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival will screen 16 films in competition chosen from some 1,500 works sent in from 96 countries and regions.

After yesterday’s photocal, press conference and conversation panel, the premiere for “Florence Foster Jenkins” was held. After the premiere, Meryl Streep was honored at the US Embassy in Rome. Today, Meryl Streep held court at the 11th Rome Film Festival, attending a photocall and press conference for the Italian premiere of “Florence Foster Jenkins”, as well as a conversation panel called “Meryl Streep meets the Audience”. No conversation these days is complete without questions about Donald Trump, and Streep, who has appeared in a PSA to support Hillary Clinton last week, had little to say about the candidate: “I don’t feel that I have to make any further pronouncements on the sexism of the Trump campaign. I think they’re doing a very good job on their own. Or he’s doing a good job on his own. I’m not sure his campaign knows quite what to make of it.” Hopefully, more information on the press conference and panel with be added soon. For now, enjoy the pictures.

On October 20, Streep will be attending a question-and-answer session for fans as part of the promotional tour for British director Stephen Frears’ “Florence Foster Jenkins”. Also yesterday, Meryl Streep was all smiles while hitting the red carpet at the premiere of her film Florence Foster Jenkins held at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 Theater on Tuesday (August 9) in New York City. She was joined by her co-stars Hugh Grant, Nina Arianda and Simon Helberg. Meryl recently opened up about her and Hugh‘s love in the film and how it should not be dismissed in spite of the infidelities. “I think especially, peering into other people’s relationships, it’s almost always not what you think it is from the outside, and I think it’s an accurate portrayal of realistic, delusional love,” Meryl explained (via CBS News). “It’s realistic because it is what it is and there is illusion and they both prop up… in this bubble of happiness.” “I mean one of the genius things that Stephen did that’s embedded in the film is even in the margins, you feel the warmth,” Meryl added. “There’s so many analogies to now, figuring out what makes life worth living. Love and art, as far as I’m concerned, is right smack in the middle. So the compromises that people make to keep their happiness intact — I think that’s all in the service of good.”
