Meryl Streep has received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for “August: Osage County”. The competition differs to the SAG Awards (since they don’t split categories into Drama or Comedy). Nominated alongside Meryl are Amy Adams (American Hustle), Julie Delpy (Before Midnight), Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Enough Said). Julia Roberts has received a nomination as Best Supporting Actress. This is Meryl Streep’s 28th nomination for a Golden Globe and the ninth in the comedy category. The 71st Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will be held on Sunday, Jan. 12 in Beverly Hills.
Congratulations to Meryl Streep for receiving 2 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations – once as Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and alongside the “August: Osage County” cast as Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Meryl shares the Best Actress category with Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena) and Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks). Congratulations also to Julia Roberts for scoring a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Results will be tallied and sealed until the envelopes are opened by the presenters at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Jan. 18, 2014.
These days, most of the American critics circles announce their nominations and/or winners for the 2013 movie season. Meryl has scored three more nominations as Best Actress for “August: Osage County”. The Detroit Film Critics Society has nominated her alongside Amy Adams (American Hustle), Julie Delpy (Before Midnight), Adele Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color) and Brie Larson (Short Term 12). The St. Louis Film Critics have nominated Meryl alongside Adams, Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena) and Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks). And the Phoenix Film Critics Society lists Meryl as a Best Actress nominee among Blanchett, Bullock, Dench and Thompson. Detroit and Phoenix have further nominated Julia Roberts as Best Supporting Actress and the cast in the ensemble category, with the latter nominating the Best Adapted Screenplay as well. The winners for all three awards will be announced between December 13-17, so any updates will be posted here. Many thanks to Frank for the heads-up.
The Daily Mail has published the first picture of Meryl Streep on the set of “The Giver”, taken last Tuesday: Meryl Streep’s latest role as ‘Chief Elder’ in The Giver has the 64-year-old rocking a long, straight grey wig with fringe. The three-time Oscar winner was all business in a purple skirt suit and white peep-toe wedges on the Cape Town set. The Giver is based on Lois Lowry’s 1993 children’s novel about a society which has ‘gone to great – and sinister – extremes to make everything equal and peaceful.’ The sci-fi drama – coming out August 15 – also stars Jeff Bridges, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, and country starlet Taylor Swift. Edit: Two more pictures have been added.
The 2014 awards season is in full swing with the critics circles starting to announce their winners (or nominations first). The Washington DC Area Film Critics Association has nominated Meryl as Best Actress for “August: Osage County”, alongside Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena) and Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks). “August” has also received a nomination for Best Acting Ensemble. They will announce their winners on December 09. Then, the Satellite Awards have nominated Meryl as well. Thanks to Frank and Alvaro for the heads-up.
Who thought we would once have a video on Simply Streep that’s labeled red band and not safe for work? Thank Julia Roberts in this new scene published from the film, in which she tells Violet to eat her fucking fish. The scene also features Ivy (Julianne Nicholson) who’s trying to make a confession, if anyone would listen. Be aware that you might spoil your delight in the theatre if you watch it beforehand, but the scene is great and Roberts shows a powerful performance, so who could resist.
Meryl Streep plays the matriarch of the ultimate dysfunctional family in August: Osage County, and she tells ET’s Rob Marciano that she was reluctant to play such a mean-spirited person onscreen, a characterthat co-star Julia Roberts said set “the new gold standard for cruelty”;! Based on Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, August: Osage County tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Directed by John Wells and in theaters everywhere Christmas Day, the film also stars Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, Juliette Lewis, Sam Shepard and Chris Cooper.
A full video transcript of yesterday’s Q&A in New York, featuring most of the cast and crew of “August: Osage County” has been added to the video archive, alongside the first two television interviews. First, there’s a segment from “Access Hollywood”, talking about the film, and an interview with “Extra”, in which she also gives more insight on the recently wrapped “Into the Woods”. All clips can be found in the video archive. Edit: The A.M.P.A.S. Q&A for the film, which also took place on November 25, has been added as well.
Yesterday has been a busy day for Meryl and the “August: Osage County” cast: First, a press conference took place in New York, followed by a screening and panel discussion hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Also, press junkets for the film were filmed for broadcasts these next week (some have been published already, check the following update). Click any of the pictures below to launch the new galleries.
Here comes my favorite part of early film promotion – new video clips! A fourth scene, again from the Weston’s dinner table, has been posted by Yahoo Movies. And the Weinstein Company starts launching its official clips with the b-roll (unfortunately just a lot of getting in and out of cars) and Meryl’s interview on the film, her character and working with Julia Roberts, Margo Martindale and Benedict Cumberbatch. Enjoy the new clips. HD captures from the interview and the b-roll have been added to the image library as well.
