Disney has announced details of the special features that will be included in the Blu-ray, DVD and digital releases of its hit film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical Into the Woods, which will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD March 24.The Blu-ray and select digital releases will include “She’ll Be Back,” a song penned by Sondheim for Streep to perform as The Witch in the film. The song, which was shot and later cut from the film prior to release, “sheds a little more light on the Witch’s relationship with Rapunzel,” according to Disney. Also promised are the following bonus features, with details below:
“There’s Something About The Woods”
Journey into this mysterious forest to discover how this compelling, new musical was made. Meet Director Rob Marshall and his award-winning team of artists and craftspeople, see how the woods were brought to life…and what they represent to the story…and to all of us.
“The Cast As Good As Gold”
Emily Blunt. Anna Kendrick. Chris Pine. James Corden. Johnny Depp. Meryl Streep. Meet the remarkable cast of this musical movie, and hear of their affinity for this Broadway classic.
Deeper Into The Woods
Journey even further into the development of the film in these 4 segments: “From Stage To Screen,” “Magic of the Woods,” “Designing the Woods” and “The Costumes of the Woods.
Additional features include filmmaker commentary from director Marshall and producer John DeLuca, as well as direct access to songs in the film (including optional sing-along lyrics) and “5 Golden Eggs,” which will reveal Easter Eggs (intentional and often hidden insider references, or jokes for devoted fans). The DVD release will solely include the “Deeper Into the Woods” featurette.
Meryl Streep will narrate the feature documentary “Shout Gladi Gladi,” co-directed by Adam Friedman and Iain Kennedy and focusing on women’s health in Africa. The film has an emphasis on fistula, a debilitating condition that turns once-healthy women into outcasts. The documentary is being made in collaboration with Ann Gloag’s Freedom From Fistula Foundation, and explores Gloag’s experiences working with women in Kenya, Malawi and Sierra Leone. The film also features appearances by Melinda Gates and Nobel Peace laureate Wole Soyinka. Friedman will produce the documentary through his Vertical Ascent company; Gloag will executive produce. “This powerful film attests to the igniting power of one woman, Ann Gloag, to set in motion hundreds of helping hands, doctors, nurses, caregivers, family and friends, to resuscitate the health and status of victims of fistula, and to give them back their lives,” Streep said. The filmmakers noted that an estimated 2 million women in Africa live with obstetric fistula and more than 500,000 women die each year during pregnancy or childbirth, though 80% of these deaths are completely avoidable.
As you might have noticed, lots of additional pictures from the Academy Awards’ red carpet and show have been added to the image library throughout the day. Also, a video compilation of Meryl’s moments – and you can call her shout-out to Patricia Arquette’s speech a “Meryl moment” have been added to the video archive. Besides the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category, the video also includes the In Memoriam segment which Meryl introduced, and which was played to the haunting theme of “Sophie’s Choice”. Additionally, screencaptures from the ceremony have been added as well. That’s a wrap for this year’s Oscar coverage, so check out the new additions and enjoy the video.
It’s been the day Hollywood has been waiting for. Meryl Streep has attended tonight’s Academy Awards as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress for “Into the Woods”. A first couple of pictures have been added to the image library with much more to come. Edit: Lots of additional pictures are being added as we speak, and many previously added pictures have been replaced with HQs, with many thanks to Lindsey, so make sure to refresh the image pages from time to time.

Here comes the first production still for “Ricki and the Flash”. While a first known picture from the film wasn’t released by Sony and not ready to be published, this is our official first look, courtesy to People Magazine. In Juno writer Diablo Cody’s latest movie, Streep, 65, plays singer-guitarist and Flash band member Ricki, who gave up everything to pursue her dream of rock-‘n’-roll stardom. Then she returns home to make amends with her family. Streep’s real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer, also plays the role on screen, alongside Kevin Kline as Ricki’s ex-husband, and rocker Rick Springfield plays a bandmate who is in love with Ricki.
Yesterday, Meryl has attended the 21th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards as a nominee for “Into the Woods”. As predicted, the Best Supporting Actress trophy went to Patricia Arquette. Pictures from the arrivals and the show have been added to the image library. My biggest thanks to Lindsey for contributing most of these. Thanks.

“Into the Woods” finally arrived in movie theaters nationwide on Christmas Day, opening at #2, and it continues to remain in the Top 10 in its fourth week of release. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the musical opened with $31 million, the highest-grossing opening of a Broadway-based movie musical in history. “Into the Woods” added an estimated $19 million more to that figure stateside and nearly $6 million more from international markets the next weekend, bringing the total projected domestic and international gross to over $97 million worldwide for its first 10 days of release. Subsequently, INTO THE WOODS added more than $9 million more domestically last week and more than $6 million this week, bringing its stateside total to an estimated $114 million and international to $140 million for its first four weeks of release. Those who can’t wait to revisit the film won’t have to wait long – it will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the United States in March.
Coverage on this year’s Critics Choice Movie Awards falls flat because Meryl wasn’t there and didn’t win (and since the show has been said to be worste than last year in terms, it’s not a big loss). However, I’ve added the Best Supporting Actress segment to the video archive for archival reasons :-) Then, two new featurettes for “Into the Woods” have been posted as well as the London press confernece for the film.

Congratulations to Meryl Streep for receiving an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress for “Into the Woods”. She shares the category with Patricia Arquette for “Boyhood”, Laura Dern for “Wild”, Keira Knightley for “The Imitation Game” and Emma Stone for “Birdman”. This is Meryl’s 19th Academy Award nomination and the fourth as Best Supporting Actress (after “Adaptation”, “The Deer Hunter” and winning for “Kramer vs. Kramer”). The Oscars are handed out on February 22, 2015.
Meryl Streep, Mark Ruffalo and James McAvoy have attended “The Graham Norton Show” in a taped appearance that aired yesterday night in the United Kingdom. Fresh off the London premiere for “Into the Woods”, Meryl talked about the film, some often-told stories (her “King Kong” audition) and shared a funny story on her first Golden Globe appearance in 1980. This was a surprise to hear as I was certain she hasn’t attended the ceremony until 1989 (hence the lack of pictures from any previous appearances), but maybe her story gives a good explanation why she didn’t want to have her picture taken back in 1980. The full appearance has been added to the video archive. It’s split in two parts due to its length, the second part can be watched here. Additionally, screencaptures from the show have been added as well.
