On Friday, Meryl Streep joined Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, showrunner John Hoffman and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for a For Your Consideration event on the Paramount lot, with a conversation moderated by co-star Jane Lynch. The group is currently shooting season four of the series, which is largely set in Los Angeles, on the lot. Streep told the crowd how she called Martin to ask to appear on the show, after having had a “really fun” time working with him on 2009’s It’s Complicated. “I’m sorry, can you believe that Meryl Streep asked to be on this show? I could die,” Gomez exclaimed, as Streep responded, “Doesn’t everybody want to be on this show? They do, because next season, they all are,” referencing the fact that several new stars, including Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon and Eva Longoria, will be joining the cast. “They have to erect barriers to keep these actors out,” she continued. “I was a huge fan of the show, but I also just wanted to have some fun because the world is pretty shitty right now.” She added of the Broadway music-set third season, “I really thought they should have had Selena sing.” A lenghty article on the panel, alongside some brief video clips can be found over at The Hollywood Reporter. Pictures have been added to the photo gallery, alongside some new ones from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon and Eva Longoria are the newest castmember to join “Only Murders in the Building” season four. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy will have a recurring role in the series’ upcoming season, marking his first regular television role since Schitt’s Creek ended. While details of Levy’s character are being kept under wraps, he will become integral to the twists and turns of this season’s investigation into Sazz Pataki’s death (Jane Lynch). Shannon is set to portray a high-powered Los Angeles businesswoman who finds herself drawn into the world of Sazz’s murder investigation, while Longoria will play a character who becomes integral to the season’s plot details. The new castmembers join the show’s original characters of Selena Gomez‘s Mabel, Martin Short‘s Oliver and Steve Martin‘s Charles, as well as Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin, who became a major character in Only Murders in the Building season three and will reprise her role for season four. The third installment of the Emmy-winning series ended with Sazz being shot in Charles’ apartment after spending her time over the course of the 10 episodes trying to talk to him about something that’s been weighing on her. As she dies, she begins to write something to her longtime friend in her blood. “It feels very in her character to send a message,” co-showrunner John Hoffman previously told The Hollywood Reporter of the final moments of season three. “She’s been trying to do it to Charles throughout the season. She’s hinting to him in episode five that she’s picking up some ham radio chatter, certainly, right when she arrives in the finale, she’s saying, ‘Can I grab you for a few minutes? It’s a little sensitive.’ So, there’s something on her mind and something she may know but to be found out.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Meryl Streep is returning to The Arconia, having closed a deal to return for the fourth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. Streep will again recur and reprise her role as Loretta Durkin, the love interest to Short’s Oliver Putnam. Season three ended (spoiler alert) with Loretta getting an offer to work in Los Angeles. As previously announced, season four of the comedy starring Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez will begin with a trip to L.A. before the central action returns to its central location, The Arconia. In an interview with TV’s Top 5 coming Friday, 20th Television president Karey Burke – whose studio produces OMITB – confirmed Streep’s return. “Meryl is returning for next season because she had a tremendous time,” Burke says in The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast. Streep joins Molly Shannon with recurring roles in season four of OMITB, which is co-created by John Hoffman and Steve Martin. Dan Fogelman (This Is Us), Short, Gomez and Jess Rosenthal also exec produce. Many thanks to everybody for the heads-up.

Yesterday, Meryl Streep won a Critics Choice Award as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for “Only Murders in the Building”. Unfortunately, there’s not much more to say or show, since she didn’t attend the ceremony. Furthermore, the category was presented rather as a blink-and-you-miss-it side dish combined with Best Supporting Actor. She was nominated alongside Paulina Alexis (Reservation Dogs), Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary) and Jessica Williams (Shrinking). This is Meryl Streep’s fourth Critics Choice Award – she received Best Actress honors in 2009 and 2010 for “Doubt” and “Julie & Julia”, respectively, and a Best Actress in a Comedy award in 2016 for “Florence Foster Jenkins”.
