Here’s a new picture from “Hope Springs” with a longer synopsis (stating Meryl’s character name as Kay?): The story finds Streep married to Jones as Kay and Arnold, a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a renowned couple’s specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy. Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough – the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place. A new production still for “Hope Springs” has been released and added to the image library. If you’re wondering now – it seems that the film’s title has been changed to “Hope Springs” instead of “Great Hope Springs” – let’s not hope it’s a bad omen to get rid of the “great” :-) Anyway, the new still might give more insight on the comedy side of the film. Many thanks to Michael for sending it in. The comedy, out in US theaters on August 10, 2012, centers on Arnold and Maeve Soames (Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep), who attend an intense counseling weekend to decide the fate of their 30+ years marriage |
Here comes the first production still for “Great Hope Springs”, featuring its stars Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Full version can be found in the image library.
Fantastic news according to Exhibitor Relations. The US theatrical release of “Great Hope Springs” has been moved from December 14th to August 10th. Starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carell, the David Frankel-directed dramedy follows an older couple as they try to work out their marriage with a weekend of couple’s counseling; Carell will play “the marriage therapist who tries to help rekindle their loveless relationship.” A Summer movie to look forward to.
Director David Frankel was interviewed by ComingSoon.net on his latest film “The Big Year” and was also asked about “Great Hope Springs”. An excerpt can be found below, the complete interview is here.
It’s a drama with surprising comedy, that’s the best way to describe it now. I mean, until I see it in the cutting room, but I think our take on it is that it’s really, really funny, but we’re not playing anything for laughs, and I think that’s the best kind of comedy, I think, where the humor comes out of very real emotion, not unlike “The Big Year.” I think that’s a similar tone that we’re going for in “Great Hope Springs.”
According to the Hartford Courant, “Great Hope Springs” wrapped filming this Friday – so these might be the last additions of pictures from the set (September 28, 2011 and October 04, 2011) so far. No word though if principal photography is done or if the film continues to shoot elsewhere.
Lots of additional on-set pictures from the shooting of “Great Hope Springs” have been added to the gallery. Check the previews below to access all new pictures.
