Meryl Streep has received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for “The Manchurian Candidate”. She shares this category with Cate Blanchett (The Aviator), Laura Linney (Kinsey), Virginia Madsen (Sideways) and Natalie Portman (Closer). This is Streep’s 20th nomination for the Golden Globe, holding the record as most nominated actor in Globe history (she’s also the most Oscar-nominated actress of all times). The Golden Globes will be handed out on January 16, 2005. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Meryl Streep on winning the Emmy Award for “Angels in America”. Leading the award show as a favorite with 21 nominations, “Angels” scored awards in every category it was nominated for, including honors as Best Television Movie, for Mike Nichols, Tony Kushner and its actors Al Pacino, Mary Louise Parker and Jeffrey Whright. With a total of 11 wins, “Angels in America” ties the record as most awarded film in the Emmy history with “Eleanor and Franklin” (1976).

Meryl has received a nomination as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or TV-Movie for her performances in “Angels in America”. She shares the category with Glenn Close (The Lion Winter), Judy Davis (The Reagans), Helen Mirren (Prime Suspect 6) and Emma Thompson (Angels in America). The mini-series leads the Emmy race with a total of 21 nominations, including for Best Mini-Series, Mike Nichols and his complete cast in the lead and supporting cate-gories. The AFI’s Life Achievement Award took place this evening and was attended by many of Meryl’s co-stars, including Jack Nicholson, Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Catherine O’Hara, among others, its evening featured many tribute speeches by her colleagues, surrounded with clips of her performances and never-before seen scenes from her two new films.

The gala, which take place on June 10, 2004, will be attended by Streep’s friends and colleagues, including Robert De Niro and Clint Eastwood, as well as Jim Carrey, Nora Ephron, Carrie Fisher, Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline, Mike Nichols, Sydney Pollack, Robert Redford, Kurt Russell, Tracey Ullman and Claire Danes. On Thursday, May 27, New Dramatists – the nation’s oldest not-for-profit workshop de-voted to the development of new playwrights – will honor Meryl Streep with its 2004 Career Achievement Award at its 55th annual spring luncheon, to be held in the Broadway Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis. Receiving her award by Richard Chamberlain, Meryl also appeared on stage to introduce the “In Memoriam” segment. Al Pacino also won an acting award for “Angels”.
