A record 20 films have been submitted for consideration in Oscar’s animated feature film category. The surfeit of entries is likely to force the Academy to nominate five animated films for only the second time since the category was created in 2001. Academy rules state that if fewer than 16 films are submitted in the category, only three can be nominated. More nominations in the category could prove helpful to smaller films included among the entries. Nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be unveiled Feb. 2. A full list can be found under the cut.
The People’s Choice Awards have announced the nominee selections where users can vote for their favorite movie stars – the five people with the most votes in each category will become the official nominees for the 2010 People’s Choice Awards. And since Meryl is listed as one of the Year’s Favorite Movie Actresses, alongside Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts, among others, this is your chance to cast your vote and make Meryl an official 2010 nominee. Visit their official website to participate.
Here comes a real blast from the past – Meryl’s very first appearance at the Golden Globe Awards. The year is 1989 and Meryl was nominated as Best Actress in a Drama for “A Cry in the Dark” – my personal favorite performance. 1989 marked the first and so far only three way tie in the history of the Golden Globes in the Lead Actress – Drama category, unfortunately Meryl was not among the winners. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful addition to the archives, so enjoy the clip!
