Documentarian Ken Burns is almost ready to release his new series, a six-part, 12 hour show on the American Revolution. We just have to wait a little bit for it since the PBS premiere is scheduled Nov. 16-21 from 8 to 10 p.m. It will air for six consecutive nights and will explore “the country’s founding and its eight-year war for independence,” according to PBS broadcasting. “The American Revolution has always been surrounded by myth that keeps us from seeing the real picture,” Burns said in a written statement. “The story of the birth of this country is at once devastating and inspiring. It was a bloody civil war that divided families and communities, displaced native nations, both challenged and protected the institution of slavery, while also proclaiming the noblest aspirations of humankind.” The full series will be available for streaming starting Nov. 16 at PBS.org and on the PBS App. It will also be available on streaming services like iOS, Android, Roku streaming devices, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast and VIZIO. As he has in many of Burns’ films, it will be narrated by actor Peter Coyote. The series will include the first-person voices of nearly 200 individual historic figures, read by a cast of actors, including Kenneth Branagh, Jeff Daniels, Morgan Freeman, Paul Giamatti, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Laura Linney, Meryl Streep, and many more. Thanks to Alvaro for the heads-up.
