AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: AL PACINO

2007-06-19 (Broadcast)

In June 2007, Al Pacino was honored with the Lifetime Achivement Award by the American Film Insitute. An array stars and colleagues, including Robin Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, Sean Connery, Jamie Foxx and Ed Harris, praised Pacino's work and their collaboration with him. Meryl, who won the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, sent her gratitude towards her co-star in a taped message that was accompanied by a scene from "Angels in America":

"At the first reading of 'Angels in America', he was so deep into each word that I thought we're never gonna have enough time cause Al is not gonna be ready. But then Al blows everybody up the screen! I've never seen such small tiny detail and so much luxury in that small moment. I love Al's dedication to what we do. And he sort of elevates it to something like life and death. Lot of times you think it's all just vanity and it's all just silly. I don't know, here I am prancing around looking like somebody else. And he makes it count... he makes it like it's something important (laughs)".
