This evening, Meryl Streep has attended the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards as a Best Actress nominee for “Florence Foster Jenkins”. The statue was won by “La La Land”‘s Emma Stone. Lots of pictures from the arrivals and from inside the ballroom, mingling with Amy Adams, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, have been added to the photo gallery. If Meryl was one of the first celebrities to speak out about the current political climate at the Golde Globes three weeks ago, almost every recipient at the SAGs followed in her footsteps. Streep received a shoutout from winner and former co-star John Lithgow, who noted that the SAG Awards are about actors honoring actors, and he praised his fellow nominees in the category, adding that “a great actress somehow managed to speak my exact thoughts three weeks ago in another awards ceremony and that’s Meryl Streep.” Hundreds of additional pictures have been added with many many thanks to Claudia and Lindsey, alongside screencaptures and the Best Actress segment in the video archive. Photographer Brigitte Lacombe’s new book profiles women from all walks of life: from politicians to artists, journalists to teachers, and engineers to campaigners. But this is not a book about celebrities, though many of the subjects are well-known. These are women who have led their field, who have broken the mold to achieve, or who have inspired changes through relentless endeavor. Telling their stories through in-depth interviews, and illustrated with arresting photography by world-class photographer Brigitte Lacombe, this book will help and inspire women everywhere to realize their hopes and ambitions. Subjects include journalist Tina Brown; Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep; actress, writer, and director Lena Dunham; Nobel Peace Laureate Leyman Gbowee; the first female fire fighter in the FDNY, Brenda Berkman; MP Mhairi Black; sailor Tracy Edwards; entrepreneur Jo Malone; and human rights activist Yeonmi Park.

Tonight at the Golden Globes, Meryl Streep gave a speech that should be winning her just another award for the brilliant mind she is. Streep spoke of the importance of empathy in today’s world and referenced the moment that Trump mocked New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski during a rally in 2015 for his disability. “This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in thee public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” Streep said. “Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.” She then highlighted the importance of the press: “We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. That’s why our Founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in our Constitution.” Her full speech and tribute video can be found in the video archive, pictures are constantly being added to the photo gallery. Happy New Year everybody! Today, Meryl Streep has joined colleague and friend Viola Davis to celebrate Davis’ star unveiling at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A first batch of pictures have been added to the photo gallery with more to come. Edit: Over 200 additional pictures have been added, as well as a video of the whole ceremony below. At the ceremony, Streep said, “Viola Davis is possessed. She’s possessed of a blazing, incandescent talent. She is, arguably, the most immediate, responsive artist I have ever worked with.” And an emotional Davis, who won a Tony for her Broadway performance in Fences and is now frontrunning a Best Supporting Actress win at the Academy Awards, said, “I cannot believe my life right now.” Meryl’s introduction starts around 7:50 minutes.

A new selection of international magazine scans have been added to the photo gallery, coming from Spain, the United States, Australia and Germany. They’re all covering the international releases of “Florence Foster Jenkins”, and the Australian Women’s Weekly has recycled More Magazine’s cover story with Michelle Obama and Meryl, adding a wonderful outtake in the article. On Thursday, Meryl Streep has attended the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s A Magical Evening Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Meryl’s sighting comes a day after news that her turn on the upcoming television miniseries “The Nix” will bring her a whopping $825,000 per episode, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. Makes one wonder how many episodes there will be. Streep’s handsome salary places her among a growing list of top-notch performers who have been lured to the small screen thanks to the popularity of original content streamed by the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

Look who’s made a surprise visit to today’s Tokyo International Film Festival – surprising at least for me since I didn’t know about. Meryl is in Tokyo for the city’s film festival and presentation of “Florence Foster Jenkins”. Speaking on the film, Streep said: ““I did try to learn how to sing these arias properly, so I got a very, very good, true opera coach and he taught me the arias correctly. And then in the last two weeks of a two-month preparation… we just, what’s the nice word, screwed around with them. Somehow I pulled it off.” American socialite Foster Jenkins craved fame as a diva but instead gained notoriety for her terrible singing voice. The 29th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival will screen 16 films in competition chosen from some 1,500 works sent in from 96 countries and regions.

Hundreds of additional pictures from the 11th Rome Film Festival have been added. After yesterday’s photocal, press conference and conversation panel, the premiere for “Florence Foster Jenkins” was held. After the premiere, Meryl Streep was honored at the US Embassy in Rome.
