Here’s another fantastic treasure from the past. In December 1981, Meryl Streep, Donald Sutherland and Richard Chamberlain honored actress Helen Hayes at the Kennedy Center Honors. The appearance can be now watched in the video archive with captures being added to the image libary. Enjoy!
Here comes a very rare and fantastic new find courtety the exceptional Bobbie Wygant Archives. In late 1982, she interviewed Meryl for the theatrical release of “Sophie’s Choice”. The full eight minutes interview video can be watched in the video archive – captures can be found in the Image Library. Enjoy and be sure to pay Miss Wygant’s website a visit.
Here is another rare find for the archives. In 1996, CBS aired a Siskel and Ebert special, featuring interviews with some of the greatest filmmakers of their time, inluding Meryl Streep. She and Gene Siskel first visited Yale for a discussion with students, and then sat down at Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria (seriously) for an interview about Meryl’s time at Yale and her successful film career. This interview is insightful and at times downright hilarious, which makes it a must-see. Enjoy! Additionally, screencaptures have been added as well.
Here’s another great find for the archives! In 1978, Meryl won a Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her breakthrough performance in NBC’s “Holocaust”, her very first major award after transferring from the New York stages to film and television. Meryl didn’t attend the awards ceremony to accept the award since she was filming in New York.
Here are some new additions to the archives, some recent documentary appearances as well as blasts from the past. High qualuty captures of Meryl in the 2010 documentary “America: The Story of Us” (with thanks to Tina), captures and video of the remarkable documentary “Faces of America”, tracing the roots of Meryl’s ancestors. Behind the scenes captures of Meryl voicing Mrs. Fox in “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”, captures and video of a special called “Arts & Children: A Success Story” that Meryl hosted in 1996 (again, thanks Tina ;-) and captures of Meryl’s public service announcement for Amnesty International in 1986. The previews below will guide you to each gallery. Enjoy!
I first thought this was a screen test for “The Iron Lady” :-), but it’s Meryl Streep in 1991 presenting the first part of the documentary “Age 7 in America”. An adaption of a British TV series, this documentary chronicles the lives of a group of economically, racially & socially diverse 7-year olds living throughout America in 1990. The filmmakers have returned every seven years to chronicle the children’s growth. The first part has been uploaded to Vimeo, a clip and captures of Meryl’s opening can be found in Simply Streep’s image and video archives. Enjoy! Thanks to Tina for originally finding it!
Here are some fantastic video additions that help to complete the archives big time :-) First is a segment from the 1982 Academy Awards, when Meryl received her first Best Actress nomination for “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”. With this being added, all her Oscar appearances are now complete :-) Then, with many thanks to DVDGuy there are two clips of Meryl attending the 1986 People’s Choice Awards, winning as Best Actress and Best Allround Entertainer. And finally, with many thanks to Daniel, two clips of Meryl presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Paul McCartney at the 1990 Grammy Awards. Thanks both for these teriffic finds! Screencaps from these appearances have been added to the Image Library as well. Edit: The People’s Choice Awards videos have been re-uploaded, see this update for more information.
