Only Murders in the Building has received four Golden Globe nominations for its fourth season. Stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez have all been nominated for Golden Globes for their respective roles of Charles Hayden-Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora in the Hulu series. The series was also nominated for best television series – comedy or musical. Both Martin and Short were nominated for best performance by an actor in a television series – musical or comedy. Martin’s nomination marks the fourth consecutive year he has been nominated in the best television actor in a musical or comedy series category for the series. This nomination marks his ninth overall Golden Globes nomination and could be his first-ever win. Meryl Streep is left out of this year’s nomination since her three-episode turn counts as a guest start instead of a supporting performance. So, we have to sit and wait until next year’s Emmy nominations to see if she makes the cut in the guest actress category.

It’s a wrap for “Only Murders in the Building”‘s fourth season – with a fifth season already announced, and a slight chance that Meryl Streep’s Loretta might return. At least she’s not written out of the story completely. Screencaptures from the final episode “My Best Friend’s Wedding” have been added to the photo gallery. If you want to rewind this or any previous episodes, make sure to check out the career page, which features episode guides and in-depth information on each episode of the show. Enjoy.

After six episodes with no signs of Loretta (except for a voice appearance in episode six), Meryl returned in this week’s seventh episode and more than made up for being missing in action for pretty much of season 4. Who would have thought we’d ever see her in a catfight only rivaled by “Death Becomes Her”. Screencaptures have been added to the photo gallery – with many thanks to M for sending them over – as well as production stills and on-set pictures. Fingers crossed Meryl will be part of all three remaining episodes.

Meryl Streep is in Los Angeles attending the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards as a nominee for “Only Murders in the Building”. The award, one of the few surprises of the evening so far, did not go to predicted winner Hannah Einbinder nor “industry veterans” Streep or Carol Burnett, but to “The Bear”‘s Liza Colón-Zayas. Edit: Lots of additional pictures from the arrivals, the ceremony as well as screencaptures have been added to the archives. Enjoy.

Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for season five as season four is dropping weekly episodes on Hulu every Tuesday, leading up to the finale on Oct. 29. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy-winning series’ fifth installment will have 10 episodes, as previous seasons have. In addition to Steve Martin‘s Charles Hayden-Savage, Selena Gomez’s Mabel Mora and Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam, the fourth season features the show’s starriest cast yet. Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin, who was introduced in season three, returns for the batch of new episodes, as does Jane Lynch’s Sazz Pataki — the season four murder victim. The women are joined by newcomers Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon. Only Murders in the Building season three received 21 Emmy nominations, the most for the series to date. The show has consistently received positive reviews. Season four follows the trio as they investigate the murder of Charles’ longtime friend and stunt double, Sazz, who was shot in his kitchen at the end of season three. When this season kicked off, however, her body was no longer there and neither was whatever she was writing on the floor in her own blood. A release date hasn’t been announced for season five yet, but if the show remains consistent, it should premiere sometime next summer.

Screencaptures from the first episode of Only Murders in the Building’s season 4 have been added to the photo gallery: After finishing the podcast’s latest season, the trio goes to Charles’ apartment to celebrate, unaware of Sazz’s murder as the body has already disappeared. The next morning, Charles texts Sazz and receives a reply that she had to fly to L.A. to double for Scott Bakula. The trio is approached by Bev Melon of Paramount Pictures with a proposal for a film adaptation of their podcast, and they fly to L.A. to discuss the deal. At a party thrown by the studio, they meet the actors who will play them, namely Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria, with the latter advising a relucant Mabel to use the money for her life rights to build something on her own. Many thanks, once again, to M for providing screencaptures, after being generous enough to cover season 3 for us last year.

Ahead of the Season 4 premiere on Tuesday, the stars of Only Murders in the Building were interviewed on Good Morning America to tease the new season and talk about what fans can expect. In addition to the trio- Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez- Meryl Streep was also interviewed from the set of the hit Hulu series. The Hollywood star joined Only Murders last season as the character of Loretta Durkin, a struggling theater actress. “Loretta is who probably I would be if I hadn’t had a series of incredible breaks,” the Academy Award-winner says. “It was special in that way. I kind of came in stripped-down…or Streeped-down,” she added with a laugh. “I just wanted joy. And I got it.” Streep also discussed “Look for the Light,” the song her character sang in Season 3 which was written by Broadway songwriters Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Sara Bareilles. “The song that they gave me to sing was like a gift. It was one of the most beautiful things. I still sing it to my grandchildren,” she revealed. Short says the new season has a “spectacular mystery”, with Gomez adding that she believes “it is our best one.” Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, August 27.

Only Murders in the Building, which John Hoffman created with Steve  Martin, received 21 Emmy noms this year, including one for best comedy series – a feat Hoffman, a four-time Emmy winner, tells The Hollywood Reporter is “affirming.” It’s crazy. I was with [EPs] Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal going through the opening scene for season three potentially being this actress walking onto a stage, auditioning for a part, and Oliver being thunderstruck by both the talent and the woman standing before him, and I said to Dan and Jess, “Well, the perfect person to play this part — you know who that is?” They’re like, “Who?” And I was like, “Well, Meryl Streep.” And they were like, “Good luck with that, John.” Then, literally two weeks later, I get a text from Steve and Marty saying, “Hey, Meryl Streep just reached out and said she’d like to talk about doing something together. Should we bring up the show?” I said, “Yeah!” And a week later, they called and said, “Hey, Meryl just said she’s in if you think we have something for her to do. Do we have anything good?” And I was like, “Oh, fuck.”

I pitched her the character over a very nervous-making Zoom. I said, “We open on your character, actually, in the very first scene, but you’re 10 and visiting New York from St. Louis with your mom, who’s bringing you to your first Broadway show, it’s called No Strings. And before I got any further, Meryl said, “I saw that.” And I said, “What?!” She said, “Yeah, I saw that with my mother … Diahann Carroll was in it. She sang this beautiful song.” And she started to sing “The Sweetest Sounds.” I said, “OK, I don’t know what the hell is happening right now, but Meryl, you have to stop because my head is going to explode. Those lyrics you just sang are on page one of the script I’m going to send you after we hang up. And she said, ‘What?!’ (John Hoffman, The Hollywood Reporter, August 13, 2024)
