A new production still for “Hope Springs” has been released and added to the image library. If you’re wondering now – it seems that the film’s title has been changed to “Hope Springs” instead of “Great Hope Springs” – let’s not hope it’s a bad omen to get rid of the “great” :-) Anyway, the new still might give more insight on the comedy side of the film. Many thanks to Michael for sending it in. The comedy, out in US theaters on August 10, 2012, centers on Arnold and Maeve Soames (Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep), who attend an intense counseling weekend to decide the fate of their 30+ years marriage |
“To the Arctic 3D” will be released in US theaters on April 20. I’ve added a lenghty making of – featuring an interview with Meryl and behind-the-scenes footage of her narration – to the video archive.
“The Iron Lady” has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray today in the USA, so be sure to grab your copy. I have added over 1.700 high quality screencaptures from the Blu-Ray to the image library. Enjoy the captures!
This week’s movie is Robert Altman’s farewell to radio – and his own farewell to the film industry – “A Prairie Home Companion”. This week we go a bit beyond the usual updates on a film, as I’ve uploaded Meryl’s 2006 appearance at the actual “A Prairie Home Companion”, where she performed at their Independence Day Special. You can watch her performance in two parts in the video archive. You can also find audio files of her on-stage performances in the audio section. As for the film, new quality screencaptures, promotional stills and video clips have been added to the archive. You can find production notes and my review after the cut. And, as always, please share your thoughts on the film in the comments.
Movie censors in America have given movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s controversial new film Bully a PG-13 rating after he agreed to re-edit it for younger audiences. Bosses at The Motion Picture Association of America initially slapped the documentary with a restrictive R rating, which bans young children from seeing the film without an adult. The Weinstein Company boss argued that Bully was essential viewing for kids as it raised awareness and should be shown in schools. |
A host of stars, including Justin Bieber and Meryl Streep, added their names to a petition aimed at making the censors change their minds and Weinstein subsequently announced he would release the movie, unrated, in a limited number of theatres. But he has now decided to re-edit a crucial scene, which featured expletives, to land Bully a PG-13 rating, enabling younger teenagers to see the movie. A statement from the National Association of Theatre Owners reads, “We are pleased the Weinstein Co. respected the rules and processes of the voluntary ratings system by editing and resubmitting Bully in order to receive the PG-13 rating.” The above video is a report from ABC World News on the New York screening that was hosted by Meryl. Many thanks to Rachel for guiding it my way.
Equality Now, one of the world’s leading organizations working to protect and promote the human rights of women and girls worldwide, will mark its 20th Anniversary on April 19 with a benefit at the Asia Society in New York City. The evening will honor Equality Now’s accomplishments over the last two decades and will also celebrate the future of the organization. Hosted by Sarah Jones, the event will feature celebrity readings written by writer, director and producer Joss Whedon and Sarah Jones and a musical performance by Natalie Merchant. Expected performers include Meryl Streep, Laura Linney, Rosie Perez and others. Information about the event can be found at equalitynow.org/event/20thanniversary.
Meryl Streep j4has oined Elton John, Sting and James Taylor for their own special version of The Wizard of Oz at a benefit concert to raise funds for rainforest communities in Central and South America, yesterday. Sting’s wife, Trudie Styler, produced the all-star fund-raiser with the theme Songs from the Silver Screen for The Rainforest Foundation US at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Sting had a surprise hit with the dark theme from comedy series M*A*S*H, Suicide is Painless, while Streep sang When You Wish Upon A Star. Over 100 pictures from the concert have been added to the image library.
Also, there is some speculation at this time that Meryl is in talks to join Stephen Sondheim’s production of “Into the Woods”, playing the Delacorte this summer. Not long ago, a British newspaper interview with Sondheim mentioned that Meryl was a rumored possibility to portray the Witch in the revival. Sondheim didn’t confirm or deny the buzz, but interestingly said, “We will see. I think she’d be great.” That set excited little heads spinning all around town. Meanwhile, a good friend of Meryl was just cast. Amy Adams – who costarred with the multi-Oscar winner in Doubt and Julie and Julia – is going to play the Baker’s Wife. Thanks to Glenn for the heads-up!
Here comes the first production still for “Great Hope Springs”, featuring its stars Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Full version can be found in the image library.
This week’s spotlight movie is “One True Thing”, the 1998 adaptation of Anna Quindlen’s novel. Meryl Streep and Renee Zellweger play mother and daughter who have to face loss and family secrets when the mother is diagnosed with cancer. It’s a small, well acted film, one for the heart. Full review and production notes can be found after the cut. The image library has been upaded with new screencaptures and promotional stills from the film. Edit: Video clips from the film – scenes, making of, theatrical trailer in better quality – have been added to the video archive. As always, tell me what you think of “One True Thing” in the comments.
