The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences hosted a screening and Q&A at the Academy Theater in New York on December 9. Among the panelists for the Q&A were director Rob Marshall, actors Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick, writer James Lapine, cinematographer Dion Beebe and editor Wyatt Smith.
On singing Sondheim: I thought, ‘I’ll just practice the songs’. But I’m an actor who tries to sing and so feeling through the music was tricky because I got moved and then my voice would stop and choke. So I had to kind of shut down and musically bring my voice to where it could, physically deliver the song. And then I could play with it.
