Academy Conversations: August: Osage County
November 25, 2013  ·  New York, USA

A second Q&A for “August: Osage County” was held on November 25, with appearances by Meryl Streep, Dermot Mulroney, Chris Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Abigail Breslin and Julianne Nicholson, writer Tracy Letts and director John Wells on November 25, 2013 at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International. Margo Martindale said, “At one time I looked at Meryl and thought, ‘Isn’t that odd? She laughs just like me. Well that’s nothing that I did. That’s just the way I laugh. So she knew that. And we spent times and times together, just socialising and have fun.”

Quotes from the event

On playing Violet: It’s one thing on stage to play a character of that size and vehemence and, what Ewan’s character refers to as “the shrill insanity of your mother”, you kinda can’t underplay it. And you’re kinda stuck with that size of horror. And it’s from the inside out, you have to commit to it. So it was a lot of smoking and staying up late and red wine with Margo. And that all helped.
